ALCHEMY
Alchemy: a seemingly magical process of transformation or creation.
These gestural paintings are as much about process as they are about the final work. Richly layered with mark and medium, these works all begin the same way - with spontaneous, often chaotic colour and line. Moving between intuition and intention, I add and subtract layers until I can tame some of the wildness and create a satisfying composition that is both energizing and contemplative.
This mysterious process seems almost magical and I liken creating these works to finding the solution to large enigmatic puzzles - finding the resolution can take a few days or a few months, depending on the individual painting.
